BODIES OF MEN: THE LAUNCH

BODIES OF MEN: THE LAUNCH

The launch of Nigel Featherstone’s Bodies of Men was a wonderful celebration. I was invited to say a few words about the man and his novel. Here they are.

Ta dah! I can finally share the cover for my new novel. Isn't it stunning. Huge thanks to @sandyc_gogo, @harpercollinsdesignstudio and @catherineishome. Can't wait to hold a copy in my hands.
We raided the roadside cherry plum trees today.
Just in time for Christmas, advance copies of my new novel head off to the printer. Exciting, nerve-wracking and satisfying.
I love a novel that takes an outrageous premise, and then makes it work, like the glass church in Peter Carey's Oscar and Lucinda. The idea of a scientist in a little room in a hospital basement coaxing e-coli bacteria to transform into gold is absolutely that kind of premise. And Michelle Johnston makes it work. Science and alchemy together! But the real miracles and transformations reveal themselves in quieter ways than golden poo... The mundane, the uncertain and the broken are all there, finding their way.
This little guy dropped in for a feast of ants then wandered away. Such a sweetie!
I love the leeks as they go to seed. So elegant. They have their own dance in the garden.
