The cell: real and imagined

The cell: real and imagined

He closed the heavy wooden door behind him. Five of us were now shut in this small room about ten paces from end to end, and even fewer across. It was late afternoon in early spring; some sun came through the leadlight windows and candles were burning, but we were glad to have the lights … Continue reading The cell: real and imagined

Pears just doing their ordinary, beautiful thing.
We’re never too old for this. (sound on)
Is a sunny day here, at last, so we left the doors open to freshen up the house. I was checking my email when I heard some tapping and figured it was another mouse in the pantry, but when it became louder and closer I turned around. A chook was standing on the coffee table looking at me, head on one side. We have 4 chooks but this was another stray from next door, to add to the list: depressed turkey, hungry goats and a lonely alpaca.
Every year I stake the dahlias to help them stay upright and every year they grow too tall and collapse. They did the same this year, but have arranged themselves to perfection alongside the salvia. Such a sunny patch now.
It’s 12 degrees here at 1 pm! Time to admit that those few warm days were summer and winter has landed. Time dig out my fingerless gloves.
Every year these little fellas come for the cosmos seeds and balance on the thin stems to eat. There are two here but the second one is hidden among the flowers
